Position: Technical Support Specialist
Reports to: Executive Director
Status: Part- or Full-time, depending on experience
Term: 12 months
Location: Remote, with potential for travel; Trek Medics is a “21st Century” work environment and does not operate out of a fixed office. This position will ideally be based in or around Washington, DC, or New York City, to enable regular in‐person meetings with other Trek Medics staff, though it’s not required

SUMMARY – The Technical Support Specialist will work with senior leadership and program partners to support, strengthen and expand the organization’s impact, performance, and growth in three key focus areas:

  • Field programs
  • Beacon software
  • Beacon training materials

BACKGROUND – Trek Medics International is a 501c3-registered nonprofit organization that improves emergency medical systems in resource-limited settings through mobile phone technologies. Trek Medics is seeking a young, ambitious professional to join its team in the execution and management of the organization’s mission globally. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Technical Support Specialist will be directly involved in the organization’s day-to-day operations supporting existing and new partners, with strong potential for continued career growth. OBJECTIVES

  • Ensure that all Beacon users — existing and new — can use the platform fully and have all their questions answered
  • Oversee all Beacon testing and serve as liaison between platform users and software engineers to improve user experience
  • Keep all Beacon training materials updated and accurate

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Field Programs – Support existing and new Beacon users to ensure thorough on-boarding, consistent platform performance and service delivery
  • Beacon Platform – Support the Beacon software development team through regular testing, bug identification and incorporation of user feedback
  • Beacon Training – Support the development, maintenance and improvement of Beacon training materials, including online, print, and video formats

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Integrity, commitment, and a proven record of achievement
  • Pro-active, ambitious, and self-starting
  • Ability to work autonomously while still being able to collaborate as appropriate, whether remotely or in-person
  • Experience working in a startup environment (or just all-around hustle)
  • Organized and thorough, with demonstrated success in managing a lot of details
  • Proficient with basic internet and communications technology – e.g., mobile phones (feature and smartphone), SMS, web
  • Valid passport with no domestic or international travel restrictions

IDEAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Background in emergency medical services a big plus
  • Spanish proficiency
  • Proven sales record
  • Marketing background
