SUMMARY – The Deputy Director will work with senior leadership and program partners to strengthen and expand the organization’s impact, performance, and growth in four key focus areas:

  • Field programs
  • Beacon software
  • Business development
  • Administrative duties

BACKGROUND – Trek Medics International is a 501c3-registered nonprofit organization that improves emergency medical systems in resource-limited settings through mobile phone technologies. Trek Medics is seeking a seasoned and ambitious professional to join its leadership team in the execution and management of the organization’s administrative operations, software development, field programs, and business development activities globally. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Deputy Director will be directly involved in the design and execution of Trek Medics’ strategic plan with strong potential for continued career growth.   • Bring new programs and organizations onto the Beacon platform
  • Raise awareness for, and support of, the organization through pro-active business development and outreach
  • Serve as liaison between platform users and software engineers to improve user experience
  • Ensure no going concern in all financial activities


  • Field Programs – Identify, recruit, onboard, and launch the Beacon platform with new agencies; provide on-going technical support to users after launch
  • Beacon Platform – Support continued Beacon software development through regular testing and design collaboration
  • Business Development – Support the development and management of the organization’s strategic plan, budget and fundraising strategy; Identify, recruit, and build relationships with new donors; directly support the grant writing and reporting processes; Increase web traffic through contribution of new content for web and social media outlet
  • Administrative Duties – Maintain detailed and accurate record keeping for financial and programmatic operations; ensure quality and integrity of the systems and policies.


  • Integrity, commitment, and a proven record of achievement
  • Pro-active, ambitious, and self-starting
  • Ability to work autonomously while still being able to collaborate as appropriate, whether remotely or in-person
  • Background in emergency medical services and/or international development
  • Experience working in a startup environment
  • Demonstrated achievements in team leadership, project management and partnership-building
  • Organized and thorough, with strong analytical and research skills
  • Proficient with basic internet and communications technology – e.g., mobile phones (feature and smartphone), SMS, web
  • Valid passport with no domestic or international travel restrictions


  • Spanish language proficiency
  • Proven sales record
  • Marketing background
