MOBILE PHONE DISPATCHING FOR OBSTETRIC EMERGENCIES
BRIDGING THE GAP BETWEEN LABOR AND DELIVERY
Beacon ensures every childbirth is attended
Deliver Emergency Obstetrical Care Anywhere
Beacon is a text message-based emergency dispatching platform that can help maternal child health providers to reduce maternal and infant mortality.
Designed by Trek Medics International, Beacon makes emergency dispatching possible anywhere there’s a mobile phone signal by relaying requests for emergency assistance as text messages to the nearest trained midwives and community health workers (CHWs) — with or without internet on any mobile phone. Beacon automates the dispatching process by guiding the nearest available trained birth attendants to quickly locate, treat, and transport pregnant mothers and/or newborns to healthcare facilities.
Beacon reduces maternal and infant mortality by helping healthcare providers to mitigate the three delays:
1. DELAYS IN DECIDING TO SEEK CARE
Beacon allows communities to launch and sustain local response networks to report imminent childbirth and other obstetric emergencies.
2. DELAYS IN ACCESSING TRANSPORT
Beacon allows any type of transport to be dispatched by sending text messages to coordinate resources, helping women find and access transport to a healthcare facility when minutes count.
3. DELAYS IN RECEIVING ADEQUATE CARE
Beacon can coordinate midwives or trained birth attendants to bring quality care to the patient when transport to a facility is unavailable
